We take literacy very seriously at Selston High School for many reasons. Being able to read and write is so important in the vast majority of jobs and is also an important life skill, essential for dealing with day-to-day activities. Added to this, evidence suggests that children who are not able to read at their chronological reading age are not able to make expected progress in their GCSEs. GCSE exams have a reading age of 15 years and 6 months, which also means that children who cannot read at this level will find it more difficult to access their exams and answer questions.
If your child has already been targeted for extra support through our intervention programme or you just feel that they may need a little extra support then you are invited to join us at our Literacy Information Evening.
The event will be held on Monday 27th March, 6-7 pm in our Theatre and will include presentations on how you can support your child’s literacy at home together with helpful materials to take away. There will also be plenty of time for you to ask questions.
We would love to see you there!!
