Selston High School was pleased to welcome acclaimed author Sufiya Ahmed who was born in India and arrived in the UK as a baby. She lived in Bolton, Lancashire, before moving to London where she still lives. Our Year 7 Students heard about her childhood dreams of becoming an author, and how she achieved this via previous careers in advertising and in the Houses of Parliament. Sufiya introduced students to two of her award-winning titles ‘Noor-Un-Nissa Inayat Khan’ and ‘Princess Sophia Duleep Singh’ explaining Churchill and Noor’s mission to defeat the enemy in WW2 and Princess Sophia’s role in the Suffragette movement. In the sessions, there was even an opportunity for dressing up with props with students being encouraged to ask their own questions.
