Chess fever hits Selston High – Students yesterday were eager to compete in the opening round of our inter-form Speed Chess tournament. Studies have shown that playing chess can have a positive impact on cognitive ability and mathematical problem-solving in children so it was pleasing to see the commitment of our students with some even practising in their own time. In the tournament representatives from each form played a series of round robin matches against students from other tutor groups in their year. Students with the highest point score will play again until the Selston Chess Champion is crowned.
