Following the outstanding success of our students in the national Antarctic Flag Competition back in November we are really proud to report that our flags are now flying at The South Pole.
Selston’s flags travelled to Antarctica with Liam O’Brien, a medical doctor with the British Antarctic Survey Medical Unit aboard the RRS Sir David Attenborough – remember the poll where the ship could have been called Boaty McBoatface?
The photographs were taken in the Weddell Sea Ice at S 65°34.369′ W 044°50.502′. In the background of the images, there is a group of geographers who have been craned out onto the sea ice and were drilling for ice cores at the time. There is a photo of a navigational screen so we can see the course they were following at the time.
Well done to all concerned.
