Dear Selston High School Families,

Welcome to the start of another exciting year — a year filled with opportunity, challenge, and growth. We are thrilled to begin this important chapter with you and look forward to supporting every student in achieving their very best.

This year is a crucial stepping stone, and a strong start will set the tone for success. We cannot emphasise enough the importance of excellent attendance — being present and engaged every day is key to making the most of the learning and support available.

To support learning, we are excited to introduce our Knowledge Companions for all students. These are new, purpose-built resources designed to help students consolidate key information, track progress, and stay organised. They are a vital element of student learning, and we ask that every student brings their Knowledge Companion to school every day. The Knowledge companions contain 100% sheets which hold the powerful knowledge identified for success in all subjects. As our Year 7, 8 and 9 students all study the same broad curriculum the contents of each year groups’ companions is the same, however we have personalised those for Years 10 and 11 to correspond with students’ options choices. Year 7-9 will be given their companions on Thursday during their Ready to learn session period 2, Year 10 on Thursday in assembly and Year 11 on Friday in assembly. Please ask your child to show you their Companion when they get home and take some time to watch this short information video which explains in more detail what the Knowledge Companions are, and how they will be used

At the heart of everything we do are our school values: Ambition, Teamwork, Honesty and Respect. These values will guide us through the year and help create a positive, purposeful atmosphere where everyone can thrive.

We are proud of our all our students and excited to see what they will accomplish this year. Let’s make this year one to remember.

Warm regards,
