‘Inspiring’, ‘Informative’, ‘Thought Provoking’, ‘Challenging’, ’Constructive’, ‘Supportive’
A few of the words chosen by our delegation of 15 students as they reflected on their day at the Two Counties Trust’s Black History Event.
During the day Students listened to inspirational speakers and took part in thought-provoking workshops, equipping them with the knowledge and skills to become Ambassadors of Change.
Speakers included Tebo Mpanza, creator of the VAABS fashion house and CEO of the agency Unfound Studio who described how influential black figures have shaped his life and David Olusoga who is a British-Nigerian Historian, BAFTA-winning Producer/Presenter, best-selling author and professor of Public History at Manchester University who presented an inspiration talk around anti-racism and anti-bullying.
Students also attended a workshop by Stop Hate Uk who worked them to consider all forms of discrimination and hate.
On their return to school the students are keen to meet as a group and consider how they can support change here at Selston High including ways of making it easier for students to report discrimination and educate other students on why it is wrong to treat a person badly or unfairly on account of personal characteristics.
Our students wished for their thanks to be passed on both to the speakers at the event but also to the organizers from the Two Counties Trust and Hosts at Wilsthorpe School.
