We are proud to say that we have a whole host of excellent academic support on offer for our Year 11s to help prepare and support them through this vital year in their education journey.

The first support strand is our offer of after-school revision sessions. These will take place, starting at 3pm and finishing at 4pm in the rooms indicated. Subject experts will run each and all students are welcome to attend. If your child’s class teacher has identified them as someone who should definitely be attending this additional support an invite will have now been sent home.

Our second strand is the delivery of our new Mastery Meetings and Tutor Tasks on a Monday or Tuesday during afternoon tutor time. Each student has been given a “Are you Year 11 ready?” booklet (an adapted version of the booklet they received before the summer holidays) which they will work through with tutors. The Mastery and Tutor sessions will focus on developing the key skills students need to ensure they how to revise effectively and prepare for their mock exams, as well as their final GCSE exams. The schedule is as follows:

Our third strand is targeted interventions for different subjects. Heads of Department are putting on “mini-lessons” during afternoon registration for selected students to support their progress from the end of Year 10 assessments to the next mock exams. These will start on Wednesday 20th September, if your child is invited to take part then you will shortly receive an invitation letter.

Year 11 students are also benefiting from extra support from our Careers Education, Information, Advice and Guidance team to support them in making well-informed and realistic decisions about their future in learning and work.

This has already included transporting the year group to Pride Park in Derby to attend the annual Trust Careers Event.

We know that our students will make the most of these opportunities and both parents and students can be reassured that we will do everything we can to support them through this important, final year at Selston High School.

Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any queries, questions, or concerns.
