Subject Leader Miss S Keal (Sarah.Keal@Selston.ttct.co.uk)

During science lessons we aim to inspire our students to explore and engage with the exciting world of practical science and understand its applications in the real world.

Students study Biology, Physics and Chemistry from Year 7. Progress is carefully assessed and towards the end of Year 9 each student is placed on an appropriate GCSE pathway.

The majority of students in Key Stage 4 take a qualification in GCSE Combined Science leading to two GCSE qualifications. As part of the course students will take part in a number of ‘Core Practicals’ and they will be examined on various aspects of Biology, Chemistry and Physics.

At the end of Year 9 some students will be invited to study for three separate GCSEs in Biology, Chemistry and Physics. These courses are more challenging and require a deeper and more sophisticated knowledge of Science.

Students opting for this pathway will often go on to study Science A-levels at Post-16 and University level and may enjoy a career in science.
