What is an 100% Sheet Companion?

All scholars at Selston High School receive an 100% Sheet Companion containing the essential knowledge and key information for each subject. These companions are carefully designed to support learning in the classroom as well as at home.

Each companion includes the most important facts, vocabulary, concepts and skills that students need to learn for the semester / academic year. They should be viewed as a personal resource, an essential part of a students equipment list.

Within each companion are 100% Sheets. They have been created by our expert teachers to contain the most powerful knowledge for a topic. They are carefully organised to help students remember information because by revisiting the same knowledge regularly, students strengthen their understanding and build long-term memory.

How are 100% Sheet Companions used?

100% Sheet Companions are an integral part of our curriculum as we regularly use them in lessons, home learning and independent revision. Teachers will refer to the booklet during lessons to reinforce key knowledge and support classwork. Students may use the booklet to:

  • Review important information
  • Practise key vocabulary and definitions
  • Complete retrieval activities and quizzes
  • Prepare for assessments and examinations
  • Support home learning tasks

At home, students are encouraged to revisit their booklet little and often rather than revising for long periods all at once. Short, regular revision sessions are proven to be far more effective for remembering information over time.

Families can support learning by:

  • Helping students establish a regular homework routine
  • Providing a quiet and organised workspace
  • Quizzing students using their Knowledge Booklet or flashcards
  • Encouraging regular short bursts of revision and recall practice

Effect Ways to Use Your 100% Sheet Companion

There are many simple and effective revision techniques scholars can use with their Knowledge Booklet.

Read, Cover, Write, Check

This is one of the most effective ways to memorise knowledge.

  • Read a small section of information carefully.
  • Cover the text.
  • Write down everything you can remember.
  • Check your answers and correct any mistakes.
  • Repeat until you can recall the information accurately.

Flashcards

Write a question or key term on one side and the answer on the other. Sort cards into groups such as:

  • Confident
  • Not Sure
  • Need More Practice

Focus revision on the cards you find most difficult.

Mind Maps

Create visual maps of a topic using key words, colours, diagrams and images. Expanding ideas outward from a central theme can help students make links between concepts and remember information more easily.

Note Making

Condense a topic into clear, concise notes. Turning large amounts of information into a single page helps students identify the most important knowledge and improves understanding.

Create quizzes using question starters such as:
